I Need Advice on Replacing Seconday Air Injection Pump on W204 2009 C230 4MATIC
SubscribeHello Experts:
My secondary air injection pump started making a loud high pitched whine (much more than normal) this past winter, when we averaged 30 below for close to a month. I put a stethoscope to the pump today, and I am absolutely sure its the problem - which only happens when the car is cold.
My car is a W204 2009 C230 4MATIC 2.5L V6 with 105kms mileage. I researched online, and saw a few videos where the pumps were taken out, taken apart, cleaned and lubed, which seemed to get rid of the noise. Has anyone ever done this, and if so, how long did it last?
My second question relates to replacement parts. I have not checked with the dealer, but it is my understanding that these pumps are about $700 Cdn (from the dealer). I checked online, and it appears that various vendors sell BOSCH replacement pumps anywhere between $130 to $180US plus shipping. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the dealer pumps and ones purchased online? Has anyone used the BOSCH replacement pump at around $200, and how are these working out?
As long as the pump fits, and works, I would hate to pay dealer prices for a replacement pump, if I can find something cheaper.
For anyone who has gone through this with their W204, I'd appreciate a bit of helpful feedback. Also where is the best place to buy a replacement pump if ordering from Canada? Thanks in advance!

The original pumps are well made. Taking it apart and cleaning/lubricating would probably make it last another lifetime. I can bet that an original pump is actually a BOSCH unit and mercedes just marks it up if you buy it from them. If you do replace it, skip the middle man and get a BOSCH, don't get screwed by the dealer.
You can also get a used pump from a newer w204 (ebay/scrapyard) since they share the same part. You can open it up and lubricate that one too if you feel like it, used parts are everywhere for these cars and work fine.
