rain sensing wipers go off on ignition
Hi.. i got my windshield replaced for 2014 merc c250 and i have a weird problem.. the wipers are put on auto (#1) setting.. now everytime i turn my ignition the wipers go off once.. never happened previously.. does this mean that there is some problem in windshield ? is there a way to fix this? thank you.

It's a goofy system. My wipers will do a single wipe in the mornings if there's the least bit of condensation on the glass ... including when it's only the upper part of the glass and otherwise not visible from inside.
In addition, my wipers come on sometimes on a perfectly clear sunny afternoon for no reason. Usually only a single wipe, but have had two, three or even more wipes. Once I had to just turn them off completely.
Best advice I can give is ignore the single wipe in the morning at startup, and clean the glass real thoroughly in the area of the sensor.

Personally I would just not have it activated at all. That system is frustrating. Too many intermittent options before it works continuosly. Then when you wnat to turn it off you really have to be careful that you turn it off completely. So easy to leave it on the first step and then, like was mentioned, It comes on at random times out of the blue. Or, God forbid, in a car wash. I always double check the wipers are completely off if I use a car wash. Just seems like it is more complicated and overengineered than it needs to be.

Probably works pretty well if the driver solely controls the on/off decision. Once you decide you need to use the wipers and enable the system, then it works pretty nicely. Since you can tap the end of the stalk for a single wipe, I can make the decision whether to sweep away a little overnight condensation or just let it blow off as I go.
I did get caught once in a sudden deluge on the freeway and noticed that it was a little slower than I would have been jumping to max speed.
