Flex Disc DIY

Looking for a DIY. I could not find one on the forum.

From what I've read — It's advisable to do both front and rear. Take off both and install rear first and then front.

Has anyone tackled this? I will update as I move along....

Thinking of performing this service as well while changing the transmission fluid. Here is a link to the Flex Disk replacement:

There’s no point in doing this unless they are cracking in the rubber. It’s not a maintenance item.

There is a small vibration in the driveshaft which past experience has shown to be typical of a failing flex disc (swapped flex discs or "guibos" on several BMWs over the years). The vehicle has 121K miles. I should have said planning rather than thinking about this changeout.

My car has 122K. The car is starting to shift oddly although not a lot. More over, there is vibration coming from underneath.

Check the transmission mount. You can remove it and inspect it visually for cracks pretty easily.

Actually it is a maintenance item....to visually inspect for cracks. If cracked, then it would require replacement.. So, even though it’s not a time or mileage based change item, it is still a maintenance item.

Anything rubber that's meant to absorb vibration is almost certainly cooked after 121k miles of use, visual cracking or no. There may be other sources of vibration but if I were going to keep the car I would replace these things ...

I’m definitely replacing it. I presume the front flex disc under the transmission mount gets more abuse than the rear?

On BMWs I found the rear one would go bad first.

I took the car to the shop. The front flex disc has paint peeling but no cracks. The rear. was fine with no cracks or paint peeling.

Keep in mind, that I'm in Los Angeles so probably not as harsh as other climates.

I guess I'll just hang onto it and replace it when the time comes.
