Dash lights are too bright at night

Hello to everyone.

Model: W204 2013 CDI 220

Up to a week ago, the lights on the instrument panel behaved in an automatic way, i.e.: bright during the day and dim during the night.

Suddenly, they are bright all the time - i.e.: no dimming during the night, and it's annoying because they are too bright and interfere with the driving.

This doesn't seem to have affected the central panel (where the sound system main display is) - this changes to night mode during the night, as expected.

Is there a way to reset the system somehow, or perhaps a setting that may have changed to disable automatic dimming?

Thank you.

Maybe you accidentally knocked the brightness control? I vaguely remember that all the way up overrides the night mode, but I'm not sure I remember that correctly. But that control is only for dash illumination.

Thanks @whoover for your swift reply, I really appreciate that.

I don't recall ever touching the manual brightness control, however I will check in case it was turned all the way up (by one of the children, for example, who rarely but occasionally have access to the front seating), because the problem has indeed only affected the dash illumination, so that could be a plausible explanation.

In that case, I suppose that setting the brightness control to, say, half way, would resolve the problem.

Thanks again.

In one of the menus you can set display to

Daytime
Nighttime
Auto

Should be on auto. That's also another option

Thanks @Adi-Benz.

I have been trying to look for that specific setting, if anyone remembers where it is please?

If it's not on the steering wheel menu/settings, then it's on the radio settings
