2010 C300 Wheel Bearing
Well if anyone followed my last post "2010 C300 Another No Start"...that ended in the front driver side SAM being replaced at the cost of $1400...while that was being repaired and car serviced...dealer commented on possible damage to top driver front strut housing. My wife indeed hit a curb with enough force to destroy the tire and bend the rim...all replaced. This was a couple of years back. No other significant problem presented. Now there is a roaring noise thats getting progressively worse from the same wheel mostly at low speeds. First thought is bearing, since recently had to have same situation dealt with on another vehicle. Just a sanity check and process of elimination. The car tracks fine and does not present any other noise than the roaring noise at low speeds and tapers off the faster you go...I'm guessing you just can't hear it as well. I couldn't get anything more specific from the dealer for obvious reasons...$$$$. I'm going to replace the hub, however should I look for anything additional such as the entire spindle assembly? I know tires can contribute to noise as well but I'm pretty sure thats not the issue...they are practically new all around...damage above occurred just after set was installed. Thoughts?

Take a close look at the CV axle on that side too. If one of the boots has lost its grease then the joint can wear out and make noise. When going in a straight line, I think the wheel bearing and the axle are the two main rotating assemblies that could be making noise. There's also a bearing in the strut top but I would think that would only make noise when turning, not when driving in a straight line.

Planning to change hub in the next few days...I'll inspect further...no noise when turning...had the bearing on top of strut issue on a BMW I once owned, so I'm familiar with that...thx...I'll report back after hub replacement.
