2012 Mercedes C250 Coupe 1.8l turbo - tensioner replacement

So I've already replaced the camshaft adjusters and that fixed most of the issues with my wife's C250 that has 122,000 kms. I noticed there is still a little rattle though and I still have a P0016 engine code. The code is thrown when the engine is starting with the rattling noise.

So here's my thinking... When I replaced the camshaft adjusters the timing chain was nice and tight and I was able to wedge back the tensioner and it moved back into position when I removed the wedge.

My thought is that since I'm still getting a bit of a rattle at startup the check valve in the tensioner isn't holding the oil when the car is turned off like it's supposed to. That's why I hear a bit of a rattle at startup and then goes away after a second or so when it's running. My timing chain kit came with a new tensioner. So I'm going to replace the tensioner and hopefully the new tensioner will fix the cold start rattle issue since the check valve should hold the oil.

If that doesn't work then I'll do the timing chain.

Here's my original thread when I replaced the camshaft adjusters in case people are interested... https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...0340-code.html

I'd appreciate any thoughts people have on this.

Here's my new tensioner.

It has a metal ring around the end of the tensioner.

Does this get removed before install? It looks like maybe it's there to ensure the tensioner doesn't release accidentally before install.

UPDATE: Actually after watching this video...

... it looks like the metal ring stays on. I'll check when I remove the old one and see if it's on there.
