Looking to buy a used 2012 c250

Okay so I have been doing some research in the forums, and I’m brand new here so I don’t know how it works. But here’s my question, I’m looking for a 2012 c250 and I’m going to be in the price range for around $12,000. What type of mileage should I look for if I’m going to spend that much I’m thinking nothing more than 60-70k miles I won’t get. Am I wrong should I look for something with less miles? All I’ve heard with Mercedes is their cost when they break. I’m a pretty good all around mechanic but I don’t know anything about Mercedes. I am hooked on the look of the body but if there’s anything I should look for specifically when buying or if I should avoid the car in general. Please let me know thank you.

2012 C300 4MATIC Sport
I would avoid the 250 and get the 300 instead. The 250 has the 4-cylinder M271 engine which is known to suffer from many problems: failure of the high-pressure fuel pump, timing chain stretching, turbo problems, etc.. If you research and read here on the forum, you'll make the same conclusion.

On the other hand, from 2008 until 2012, the 300 has the M272 engine which is much more reliable with much fewer problems.

I followed my own advice and got a 2012 C300 4MATIC Sport. Couldn't be any happier.

thank you for your reply and information. With the c300’s newer than 2012 will they be as reliable as the past years ? And what type of mileage should I look for in buying one.

Beyond 2012, which is 2013 and 2014, the C300 went from being equipped with the reliable M272 engine to the less reliable M276 engine which suffers from failure of the high-pressure fuel pump and rattling due to the engine requiring check valves and chain tensioners as per the attached PDF.

This is why I decided to stick with the 2012 C300 4MATIC Sport. It's got the best of both worlds: reliable engine and the interior/exterior facelift.

Regarding mileage, if the car has been well maintained with proper records that prove it, and since you're a mechanic, anything below saying 60-80k miles should be fine. Beyond that you start having to refresh the suspension and engine/transmission mounts.

I'm not a mechanic and wanted a headache-free experience, so I kept searching for a year until I found my car which had 5,900 miles on it when I bought it.
