trickle charging the battery

Good morning all, search did not give any results, I have a habit of trickle charge all my cars and motorcycles, I believe by doing this makes the battery last longer, specially our MBs. on 2010 c300 when I attach the charger to the jump starting terminals (outside the battery) my charger does not read if the battery has been fully charged, my question to you is; regardless of the trickle charger not reading, do you think it has charged the battery. because to get to the battery, is Pita. Have a great day all.

Cheers

i have a fairly sophisticated charger and it takes "forever" to fully charge my 2009 C300, like 20 hours on the automatic charge setting. On the 2 amp trickle charge I can only imagine the length of time is even longer. I have not checked the exact current draw in "sleep" mode for my MB but I get the feeling there is a amp draw at the top of "high normal" considered for most modern vehicles. With a newish battery, if I leave the car undriven for 3-4 weeks, she will show signs of barely starting and on one occasion needed a jump.

To answer your question, the remote connectors for the battery are in direct continuity with the battery posts...I have checked the resistance between them and it is "0".

My recent experience was with mazda, the battery was good no issues but 4 years old. So I thought let me give it an overnight charge with smart charger I bought few years back for mercedes......Next day surprice. The battery noticibly weaker on every startup. I was forced to buy a new battery after one week of nursing getting worse(Water full).
New battery perfect. So far my experience with batteries are if you drive regurlarly they good till they get a reason to go bad.

Good morning, thank you for your response, you are right it is my charger, the one I have has line of lights indicating the percentage it is charging, if I connect directly to the battery it will show the lights indicating 25% 50% 75% and green light 100% but if I use the outside terminals it only blinks first light 25%, I am assuming it is charging without showing the indicating lights moving (I hope)
cheers
