Problems removing blower motor

The blower motor went on my 09 C300 4Matic luxury sedan. I was hearing the chirping noises for a few weeks and, finally, last week it died. Ended up purchasing a Behr motor from FCP Euro and have been trying to put it in.

Everything was going well; I got the footwell underpanel removed, unhooked all the wires, and then it came time to pull out the motor

For the life of me, I can’t get this thing out. There’s no play or anything. It’s practically jammed in there. I’ve pulled down on the blower’s tab and attempted to rotate and pull out the motor unit, but it won’t budge. Am I missing something? I’m not seeing any sort of bolt or screw holding it in place. Do I need to remove the glovebox? I’m basing my removal method off the W204 technical articles from Pelican Parts, which doesn’t mention having to remove the glovebox; however, I believe their removal article was performed on a 2008 model. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Make sure you are rotating the correct way. The arrow on the housing you see is the direction you rotate during installation.

Pull down the tab and at the same time rotate the opposite direction of the arrow. This would be clockwise if you are lying down and looking up at the motor. You need to make sure the wiring tabs are out of the way.

Don't pull down until you have completely rotated (arrow on blower matches up with arrow on housing).

For 2009 no need to remove the glove box.

Thanks for the bit of info; I was able to get it out. However, the blower motor I ordered from FCP Euro is defective. I took it out of the packaging and went to rotate/spin the fan by hand and it had a very ‘tight’ spin. I think the wheel may have been pressed on a bit too hard or a bit too far onto the motor when it was manufactured; hooked it up anyway (didn’t put it back into the housing) and it wouldn’t turn on. Finally cleaned the old blower motor and hooked it back up to the wires (didn’t put it back in the housing at this point) and it worked. I’m in the process of getting another replacement from FCP, even exchange, because who knows how long the old motor will last. I was able to fully replace the resistor though, so the effort wasn’t completely for naught.

I’ll be riding around for a few days with the footwell panel removed. That is a tight space under there.

In the end, the repair will cost me $303, just for the cost of the regulator and blower motor. Not sure how much my local MB dealer wanted, didn’t even bother to inquire, but according to repairpal.com, it could’ve ran me 500-600 dollars and that’s probably from an Indy shop.

Interesting. Definitely more likely it was damaged in transit than a manufacturing error as the fans are balanced during production. For them to balance during production the fan would have to run.

Why'd you replace the resistor?

You're probably right about the transit damage now that I think of it.

I replaced the regulator just because, essentially. I'm under there; might as well do it along with the cabin filter. The regulator and the motor are the originals that came with the car in 2009; they had a great run I'd say.

I, too, received a blower motor from FCP Euro that had been damaged in shipping (vanes on the fan were broken). FCP were excellent and replaced the damaged blower without a problem.
