Oily Rag

Hi all,
Just replaced my W204 C180 battery and just wondered what's the purpose of the metallic covering on the underside of the battery cover box.
Apart from causing a dead short between the battery terminals, if the positive terminal shield is not in place, I can't see the purpose.

I'd be grateful for any comments.
Thank you.

Heat insulation I would guess. It will be non-conductive.

Hi alecmascot,
Thank you for your quick response.
Actually it IS conductive, I've put a meter across it.
It hasn't been retro fitted or anything, it's part of the cover, which makes me think it is there for some specific purpose.
Also if it's heat insulation, as you suggest, surely it wouldn't need to be metallic!
