As for the paddles, every w204 has the wiring and connectors from factory, for some, they just plug it in and it works and others like myself, requires coding. The problem is the factory paddles will act like your tiptronic and show as D1-D2-D3 ... I was lucky enough to find someone that was able to program the transmission and give me Manual mode, probably the best thing I ever did to my car since I always drive it in manual mode now. The shift speeds are night and day compared to the tiptronic/normal paddle setting. I just had to sacrifice my Comfort option so now when I press the C/S button on my shifter, I only have Manual mode or Sport.
Hey just a quick question...did your paddles work at all before coding? Like just D1-D2-D3 but not manual mode and then after coding you got M? Or did the paddles not register at all before coding?

No, they did not work. For some people they work but only D1-D2-D3..

Damn you... I've wondered about exactly this swap.On paper, the swap should seem a non-issue. Your experience would support that statement. The one and only issue I wonder about would be fuel. With the additional displacement, additional fuel would seem likely. However, this can be achieved as easily as adding higher flow injectors. I have a 2005 Mazda 6 with the 3.0 V6. A couple of individuals have swapped to the 3.5 block from the later Fusion. They have swapped to higher flow injectors and have not experience any AFR issues.

Any chance you've checked AFR? Either through something as simple as a ScanGuage, or through a wide band sensor?

I never hooked up a wideband sensor to check the fuel ratios, the ecu must know how much fuel to put. The fuel system, including the injectors, are the same on all m272s. Changing the engine settings on Xentry is simple but I did not notice any difference when I did so, I drove about 1500km before so.

I may need to do look at doing this... I have a 2011 Sport 4Matic I purchased from my brother last fall. Good news- still at just 51,000 miles. Bad news- occasional blue cloud at start-up. Installing new valve stem seals myself would seriously be about as much work at swapping engines. And I am sure as hell not paying someone $1500-2000 to swap the seals for me.

How often does it smoke? If you start the car cold and don't let it warm up to temperature, next time you start it may result in some blue smoke occasionally. Now if it smokes on every cold start, the valve stems are done.

That has been the 'Well.....' factor in all of this. With the craziness of the past 7 months, I have been working from the dining room table. The car sees use, but not Mon-Fri regular use. There are days where the car is only started to move from the garage so I can drag out the woodworking tools to build items for my Etsy shop. I've absolutely wondered about/noticed it is impacted by 'Being started' vs 'Being driven' cycles.

Don't worry about it then, you are not the first to encounter blue smoke after long sitting and especially just starting it quickly without warming it up. Once you start driving it more, you will forget about it, at that mileage, I am almost certain those valve stems are fine. This is also a common issue of the c63 and a few other Mercedes engines. I am not sure what design causes this but its seems to affect many engines.

But that doesn't mean I can't still considered the 3.5 swap.... LOL

I did find and read a post on C63 owners talking about their (blue) smoke issues. Made me feel better about mine.

Question SLK350 ECU onto other M272 '350' Models

I'm glad there's a thread for the M272 that's active in this decade. I was wondering if an R171 SLK350 ECU can directly bolt on to the W204 C350, or in my case an X204 GLK350. If anyone can shed some light and tips with the ECU swap, I would highly appreciate it, and will source a ECU ASAP.

You can but if you have Xentry, you can just set the existing ECU to E35Sport in engine options, it is basicly the SLK350 software. Everything else with a 3.5L has the E35 engine option so its the same for all of them except the SLK350. If you are swapping ECU, you will need to recode it to the car you are putting it in.

Everything was bolt up except a bracket for the differential was slightly different(4matic only) for the GLK350 so I had to reuse mine from the C300. The dipstick is also a little different so make sure you get one with the donor 3.5L. Otherwise, a very easy swap that bolts up and no need for ECU tuning. Just make sure to have a Xentry scanner at hand to reset the engine and transmission adaptions and you are good to go.

You definitely feel a little more torque and top-end power over the 3L m272.
hello, I have the timing issue with my 2.5L m272 c230 and having to change my engine, I found a 3.5L c350 engine I am going to swap with my old engine. I just want to know how hard was reprogramming the ecu and is your swap still going strong and how much miles have you being able to go after the swap

Have you considered doing a V8 CLS550 swap for that extra fun?

i would but I don’t know if the swap requires a whole new ECU

in the video, they said the swapped the C300 ECU over. I would reach out to them on instagram to see if they can give you some more details.

Thank you, just to make sure you know, I have the 2.5L m272 and I’m just trying to figure out a bigger engine that is easy to swap without having to buy a new ECU and all
