Has anyone got any clue as to how you separate this bezel to remove the shift indicator don’t want to replace the whole unit but for some reason they make it impossible to separate from the bottom.
The silver faceplate is glued to the chrome base. You have to separate both in order to remove either the gear indicator or drive mode button. Get some of those nylon pry tools and find a place where you can lever the tool in between the faceplate and base. Then use another tool to begin separating the two pieces. You will hear popping and cracking as the glue releases because the glue dries hard and brittle. This is normal and there are no clips. The backside of the faceplate is completely flat.
When reinstalling use either E6000 glue or 3M #F9473PC VHB tape.
I had to do something similar. The bezel in my car was damaged so I bought a used one on eBay in like new condition. Only problem was the drive mode button had an "E" instead of a "C" on it so I needed to figure out how to separate the two to swap the buttons.
