New Re'Covered' Steering Wheel Straight from Germany
Want to share my experience. I'm not recommending you do this, but if you do make sure you have it installed by a licensed professional.
After having the airbags replaced as a government recall I decided to amp up the steering wheel as well. Found this one at Autofun Extreme. Price was 150 Euros plus a $50 core charge. Cost me $220. shipped. Which is about $200-500 less expensive than what I found on E-Bay. It feels like it took forever (3 weeks) for the steering wheel to arrive from Germany and the vendor did state that C19 had delayed production. For those of us with manuals you will need to specify manual so they do not send the paddle version. They also offer modifications. The steering wheel arrived ready to install -no modifications needed.
The difficulty in the installation was "da FEAR" of the airbag going off. I disconnected the battery (positive and negative terminals) and waited 30 minutes before proceeding. I had all the right tools so it took 15 minutes to remove the old wheel and install and torque the new wheel.
Regarding the quality, it feels factory fresh and even better because it is thicker so you know you're seeing and feeling something special. The stitching is tight and the leather is taught and natural feeling. I'm happy.
Cheers!

Very nice looking wheel indeed. Congrats. Now you must change the shifter knob to match it. Definitely needed.

Thanks. I'm open to any recommendations on the knob. Currently has a Momo, and it's a short version to reduce the "throw."
