2012 W204 C180 BlueEfficiency
M271 EVO engine - is this sound bad?
I've recently taken ownership of a 2012 W204 C180 with the M271 EVO engine. I noticed it has a rough idle, with the airbox visibly vibrating and had plans to check the plugs and coils for a misfire, but found myself reading nightmare stories about timing chains.

Could anyone recognise the sound of a good/bad engine of this type and comment on this video please?

Dunno about the vibration but the engine sounds normal to me.
For comparison, below is the youtube video of the 2013 C250 with 22k+ miles. Skip to 18:00 and see how it sounds like to you.

I'll get a look at the engine mounts and see whether there's damage there.

Well done - gearbox mount is mushy and engine mounts a little tired

Still would keep an eye on the timing gear
What is the mileage of your car?
I’d recommend for you to have the timing gear checked just to be on the safe side.
The chains have a tendency to suffer from elongation.
This should be checked approximately every 60.000 miles.

Will do. It's currently at 45,000 miles, I'll aim to have that planned in the next 10k or so.
