auto box stuck in gear?
Hi all,
my 2005 diesel estate runs beautifully but yesterday it decided to stay in 3rd gear, if i put it into neutral it still showed drive on the indicator on the dashboard. It then wouldn't go into park. I turned the cart of and on and then it was stuck in first. Stopped again and it then ran perfectly;y through the gears.. Today it again stuck in first. Turned it off then it worked again for a while. I have no warning lights showing and when it works its lovely and smooth. The battery appears to have a good charge. Could it be gearbox oil or brake pedal switch as it seems more electrical than mechanical but i may be wrong. Any help really welcome as i have a 300 mile trip next week.

Auto trans gear selector module going...? Significantly low transmission fluid is a fairly rare cause...you would be seeing leaked ATF in significant amounts covering the unit, on the floor. A Star Scan as mentioned will hopefully pinpoint the problem..trans solenoid, shifter module, et. al.
this link shows one approach for your W203 problem...if you are a DIYer there's a project for you ! Might be fruitless and something gets buggered up in the process.
