Need thoughts on a dead engine
Car is a 2009 w204 220 diesel blue model estate. 6 speed manual.
Traveling to work today on motorway at about 70km engine sounded like it had a blown exhaust and then all of a sudden the engine died completely. No power at all had to coast to safety.
tryed to restart the car but no joy, engine sounds like it’s trying to start but nothing happens. Had it taken to a garage and he thinks the crankshaft has gone as when you try and turn the engine over none of the belts move. Engine just makes a sound like it’s trying to start. If you put the car in gear and try and start it the car will try to move if that makes sense.
there was no warning to this at all no horrible sounds apart from the slight sound like a blown exhaust.
anybody care to a have a stab at what it might be?
