Rattling noise coming from front of W204 (video)
Hi guys,
I own a w204 c250 2011 Diesel engine. As you can hear from the video, when i start it (usually happens on cold start, but also after i let it sit for couple of minutes) it makes this rattling noise. From what I could hear, it came from the front of the engine and not the back. I say this because i thought it was the timing chain, but i was told that the timing chain for this model is in the back of the engine and not the front. After some seconds it goes away, and i think it goes away faster if I rev it a couple of seconds. Do you guys have any idea what this can be? I want to point out that the car has more than 200.000KM.

Can't really hear any rattle with the bonnet closed !!!
From your description it could be the alternator clutch pulley. Look for the belt tensioner bouncing about a bit when the engine is first started and the battery is being recharged.
