Hey guys, Noob here! Took my 2011 c300 to shop today because it didn't start. Steering column lock is ok. They told that it could be my key or my EIS. Question:
1. They did the scan on my car, wouldn't they be able to see if my EIS is bad through their diagnostic scanner instead of making me buy the key first? I feel the scan that I'm paying for should be able to tell me that. If its the EIS, how much should I pay for this parts and labor in the Houston Area?

David, scanning the car will not necessarily give you an answer as to why the car is not starting. They might have to dig deeper into diagnostic time. When diagnosing a no start issue is always a good idea to have a second key....... actually when doing any test of the Drive Authorization System it will ask for a second key. EIS should run you about $1k and probably more if your car is at the dealer. If you need a second opinion with your car contact RENN MOTORS, LLC in Southwest Houston. They have all the equipment and licensing to purchase TRP parts and program them.
