Is it worthwhile to inspect timing chain visually
I recently purchased 2007 C200 Kompressor (W204) with 120K kms as my first Mercedes, and I have become aware of the timing chain issue after searching the common issues with the generation of the car. I called a mechanic, and was told that only way to check the condition of timing chain is to check visually by opening the engine, which will cost around AUD 200. Also he mentioned that once it's replaced with new timing chain, there will be no problem again. I called another mechanic, who maintained the car for the last five years, and his advice was not to worry about it too much in advance. I understand that there are certain symptoms before the failure, but also understand that it's relatively hard to notice them specially for Kompressor engine, and once it fails then there is a huge consequences (ie. damage to other parts, or replacing a whole engine). So I'd like to know whether it's a worthwhile to inspect the condition of timing chain in advance? And will the timing chain problem be solved once it's fixed?
Thank you.
Regards,

I replaced my 2008 C200k timing chain at 100,000km upon comparing measured length of the two chains I determined mine had something like less than 5mm stretch over the total length, very minimal on my opinion.
I used the wind in new chain connected to the old chain method, depending on how many ks you do per year I would think probably good visual inspect it at 150,000km.
