Bonnet Badge

Hiya, I just bought a '62 plate Executive SE with the large grille badge and upright bonnet badge. It looks odd so I'm going to change the upright badge to the usual flat type. They're commonly sold 57mm dia but the recess is more like 44mm. Are they meant to fit over the recess or within it? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

My flat MB badge, (2009 C300) has a 45mm hole in the hood the spring loaded bottom of the rondel fits in...the outer badge portion that sits on the hood surface itself is 56-57mm. By recess, I assume you mean the hole in the hood, right ?

Hiya, i mean the bit that's sort of pressed inwards to take the base of the upright badge. I'm guessing that there's also a hole under there. If the flat badge fits against the bonnet (hood) what stops it from rubbing the paint? The must be some sort of gasket or seal to cushion the badge against the paintwork as well? I was going to buy on ebay but felt a bit reluctant to risk it.

No gasket under rondel at top surface. Below are my top shot and underneath shot with slots, plus emblem top/bottom. I get the feeling your insert site is all flat.

That's amazing, thank you,

I think that mine will look just like that when the upright badge is removed. I just didn't expect that the flat badge would sit directly onto the paintwork but yours clearly does.

I feel confident about ordering now.

Thanks again.

Your welcome. The top picture shows a thin wear line on my silver paint after 10+ years. I have laid a wax coat down every time I think of it ! If you get a badge like mine with the spring push- ins, put some grease ( I used hi temp brake caliper) on the sliding surfaces and springs. They get grunged up from the bottom with rain/road spray and seize up pretty good.

That sounds like a good idea. I'm going to get one like that but I want blue not black like every ebay seller has at the moment.

I like the upright badge but only with the plain grille. I could change the grille for not much money but I don't know how complicated that would be.

The flat badge is standard in the UK on the model I have.

I could just keep both. What do you think?
