My wife's C250 Sport threw the CEL months ago so I finally got a odb code reader (Bluedriver) and it identified code P0457. I ordered a new silcone (or is it rubber) Gas cap seal which is the blue o-ring that fits around the inside of the cap and erased the code using the ODB device. However the CEL came back a couple of times so I noticed there code was marked as a permanent code which the help pages clarify as, paraphrasing, basically the ECU needs to figure out the issue was fixed on it's own and then it will remove the code. Discovering this. I decided to take the car on a 15 or 20 mile circuit around L.A. by freeway. The car has been sitting in the driveway for months except for sporadic drives around the neighborhood. in fact, the batter died due to non use over a 2 month period but that's another post in the making (got a battery charger - Schumacher 1359). So, the day after the drive around the city the code/CEL disappeared. Case closed...
