Car won’t start. Help
So I bought a 2010 Mercedes Benz CLS 550 with only 36k miles, carfax verified, on an auction. It’s got a very slight wreck on the front bumper. After I bought it and started messing with it, the car wouldn’t start, not even crank or click. I checked the starter, battery, fuses, and everything was good. All the interior works, radios, lights, etc.
I decided to diagnose it with my obd2 scanner and it gave me lots of CAN bus errors not connecting. I also noticed that my Engine Control Module was not being recognized by the scanner, everything else was being read by the scanner except for the Engine Control Module. To my knowledge, it means the ECM is not sending any signal at all, it’s not even being detected by the scanner. I checked for voltage on the harness and the ECM is receiving the 12V it’s supposed to receive but not sending any signal to the engine at all.
I thought about swapping ECM with other cars but I was reading that the ECM is VIN verified and it won’t work with another car. Can y’all help me out with that? Is that true? What are my risks of swapping ECM with another compatible car? Or do y’all have any ideas what else could be causing the car to not even click?
Thanks for your help. I appreciate it much.
