2011 M272 3.0 V6 Start-up Smoking Cured
June of 2019 I purchased my brother's 46,000 mile 2011 C300 Sport 4Matic. As the mileage implies, it wasn't driven much. One thing I received with the car was random blue smoke at start-up. Usually if not driven for a few days.... Or if only pulled in & out to use garage as woodworking area.
I assumed it was due to dried valve stem seals, and for the heck of it I tried Liqui Moly's 'Oil Saver', followed by their Ceratec additive at next oil change. At first I thought that fixed it, but 10 days later the dream was crushed. The smoke hadn't left.
About 3 months ago I decided to replace the crankcase breather components, including the 'crankcase breather oil separator', known as the 'Oil Drip Pan'. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...des-2730100162
Well, 3 months later, and other than the first start-up after working on the car, I've not had a single start-up puff of smoke...
I bought my kit from FCP Euro, and other than my car not needing one of the components, It went perfectly. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...kit-oem-515810
