Power steering issue
Wrecked my power steering pump doing donuts on the beach, had it replaced but something still doesn’t feel right
The steering is normal when I first start the car and then after driving for a few seconds it starts to feel heavy again. Checked the levels and it’s fine (if anything it’s a little high but as far as I’m aware this shouldn’t cause the steering to be stiff as it would if it was low) also looked at the belt and doesn’t seem to be any fluid on it to cause it to slip.
If I turn the wheel lock to lock a few times the same happens again where it’s fine for a minute and then it goes back to being heavy again, same if I turn a tight corner the steering is light when straightening up again.
It seems to have a mind of it’s own where at times it’ll be light as a feather while driving and then goes stiff again with no apparent reason (not after tight turning or lock to lock as above)
The fluid has no air bubbles in it but there does seem to be some shiny specks in it which I thought was strange given it’s a new pump.
Reading around and saw someone had said sometimes when the pump is replaced it can take a bit of driving to build the pressure back up in the system before it will operate as normal again but this wouldn’t explain the intermittent nature of the fault.
Any suggestions?
