Stabalizer bar bushings flaking? Pics inside

New to me 2011 with 40k miles, Doing the B service myself and noticed the stabilizer bar bushings look wonky. Like they might've had a plastic coating that's flaking? These look normal or time to replace?

They have that coating on all the bushings. Keeps the rubber surface from oxidizing, particularly as it sits on shelves waiting to be installed or sold. They crack in usage, but that’s fine. Keeps bushings soft until you drive it off the lot. And depending on climate and usage may not even start cracking until years later.

Side note, sleazy dealerships will often use that as a reason to recommend replacement. They’ll take pictures, even point it out in person. If you didn’t know any better you’d agree with them. Had that done to a couple neighbors who asked me for a second opinion.

You’ll see that on axle shaft boots, steering boots, bushings and even some hoses. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Here’s my ‘11 E63 axle shaft boots at 10 years and 52k miles. Axle boots on my commuter ‘08 C300 with 163k miles are about the same condition.
