HOLD appeared out of nowhere
I know, I believe, my C250 W204 2013 does not have the hold feature.
For last 8 yrs I have never seen it in this car but my wife told me today when she was backing out at a mall parking lot she saw "hold' on the dash.
I believe she did see it because she is not a car person so there's no reason for her to imagine it if she did not see it with her own eyes.
Any idea what it could be?

I tried to get the "hold" feature to activate but it did not work. I pressed the brake pedal hard enough after stopping but did not wanna press any harder cause I felt I pressed hard enough for it to work, any harder would not be a feature I would call convenient.
I don't think there's any thing that is broken because i have had this car since 23k miles on it and only saw "hold" today once by my wife.
Is there a setting or some thing that shows is on?

It's definitely got it. India usually gets the really stripped down variants to cut costs, and i have it. To activate, while you're at a stop, quickly and firmly tap on the brake and you'll see HOLD. Try a couple of times, it takes a bit to figure it out.
If, however, your HOLD feature is not working, and the ECO start/stop us also not working, then you need to check the main and auxiliary battery, one or both of which would be weak. You should also check your power specs from the Vehicle Data menu, it's possible you have a weak alternator or faulty voltage converter.

My partner can't do it.
When I drive my car I use the Hold feature all the time. When my partner drives it appears not to work.
I know it's not the car.

I tried but couln't get it to work. I have just put in brand new Interstate battery about a month ago. So, it's not the power. My car does not have ECO or aux battery that I know of. Nowhere i find where the aux battery should be or how to even replace it.

There are several places your aux battery could be. Firstly, you have the main battery under the hood. Check the following for the aux battery.
1. The left or right edge of the facia, under a removable plate
2. Under a black plastic cover in the boot, next to the spare tyre.
3. One of the compartments on the left and right of the boot.
Note the AUX battery is much smaller, about 1/3rd the size of the main battery.
The issue could simply be of technique. It takes a while to get the hang of triggering it, but once you do, it's easy. Remember, quick, firm tap on the brake while stopped and in N or P.

I finally got the "hold" to work now. It's the tap that I was not doing correctly.
Now I can do it at will, lol.

That's great! I love it, especially with stop and go traffic we have around here, traffic lights every 4 feet. I didn't realise just how awesome it was until a while ago, when my aux battery died and HOLD stopped working. I really missed it while they were ordering the battery for replacement.
Have fun!

If you didn't know about HOLD, you probably don't know that your car may also have Parking Assistance, depending on your region and options, it can be Active, where it parks itself, mostly or Passive, where it tells you when and how much to accelerate, brake and steer to perfectly parallel park. If you have it, when you're going slow, you'll see a blue square with a P in it. Just in case you don't know and you've seen the blue P, I'll be happy to try and explain it to you if required.
One top tip, download the phone app 'MB VIN Decoder' or google it and put your VIN in there, it'll give you a full list of all equipment and features on your car!

On a facelift C Class 204 the auxiliary battery has nothing to do with HOLD , I should know mines now a paperweight after completely removing it to permanently disable Stop Strain .

Strange. I have the facelift W204, when my aux battery was dying, both HOLD and ECO stopped working. Didn't come back until i replaced the battery.
