Car not moving, Gear lever loose

Hello
Hoping for some help, drove the car back from tyre fitters yesterday and parked up, all good, didn't notice any issues at all.
This morning the car wont drive, starts fine, when I select drive the dash shows gear selection but it does not move, same in reverse, car wont budge.
The lever itself is a lot "freeer" than usual, no resistance when selecting position.
I haven't had any signs of issues, no noise or grinding or any sign something was wrong.
Hopefully its a simple fix but I can't even get it to a mechanic.
Any advice appreciated.

From your description it appears as if the linkage between the gear shift lever and the transmission (gearbox) has become detached. Unfortunately you can only check this by examining underneath the car. The linkage is shown below (1, 1b, 2).
