Help with column conversion...

Hey guys. I was wondering if somone has dealth with this issue before. I rescently upgraded the steering wheel on my car to a W205 Flat-bottom. I took all the electronics and wiring from my original wheel and made them fit in this one. Everything works as it should. I also wanted to upgrade my colum because it drives me nuts that my turn signal lever and cruise are backwards. When I install the new column from a later year, everything works. Turn signals, cruise and tilt levers all work as intended. When i install my sterring wheel with the new column, all my sterring wheel controls die. I am confused because obviously the column is compatible with the car, and the wheel is compatible with the car so why wont they get along when installed together? Any thoughts and insight would be appreciated.
