I removed the glovebox (online videos were helpful), unplugged the optical cable from the media interface module (its mounted above and behind the glovebox), plugged a female fiber optic loop ( ) into the disconnected cable and... voila... music! In my case it was a failed media interface module. You can check other modules the same way. Just unplug the fiber optic cable going into the module you want to test, then plug the fiber optic loop into the disconnected cable. This method won't work for testing the amplifier though because the amp would be disconnected from the system/speakers (you said your amp was good anyway). Hope all of this helps someone!
I'd recommend checking the audio inputs first, it might point to the problem area as it did for me.
