Thermostat replacement

Guys, When do you usually change the thermostat for our vehicle for preventive maintenance vs wait for it to fail and get you stranded on the side of the road moment? Doing a google search it says 10 years. I know people will say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but our vehicles are aging already like mine which is a 09 model. I will be flushing the coolant pretty soon and I was thinking why not do it while the coolant is out. While I am at it any other recommendations what needs to be replaced as preventive maintenance on the cooling system?

Ten year is a magic number to me, as mine failed at round nine years and a half. I noticed the engine temperature took much longer to reach normal point. It was stuck open therefore was safe. When it failed I only got less than 60k miles.

Same here, 9½ years, but 95,000 miles. It’s summer and 95 F so not a big deal and it’s hot in my workshop. I’ll change it when the weather gets cooler before the next winter.

Interesting. Mine started kicking back thermostat open codes also at 9.5 years. 128k miles for me.
