CLC 160 Random cutting out - EIS?
Hi - am new around here as I’ve recently bought the above car as a cheap runaround. 2009 model.
Am dealing with a few issues including a duff MAF sensor that I’ve just sorted , however I’ve encountered an intermittent fault that I’m trying to get to the bottom of.
Basically every now and then, the car will without warning just cut out and immediately restart (sometimes without me needing to turn the key). Sometimes also it won’t turn over at all when turning the key - on the few occasions this has happened, it’s started on the 3rd or 4th attempt.
I only have one key and am thinking this issue relates perhaps to the ignition switch? There’s no consistent pattern to the fault ut it’s disconcerting that the car randomly cuts out particularly if I’m motorway driving…. I’ve tried jiggling the key when it’s in the switch to see if I can make the fault happen without success and I can go a few days without the fault happening at all.
im planning on taking the switch out and having it tested but wondered if there’s anything else worth considering as a possibility?
