M271 Camshaft Adjuster Magnet Issue?
Do our M271 evo engines suffer from the potentiality of having oil seep past the seals of the camshaft adjuster magnets and into the wiring harness? I have found that this is a very common issue for the M278 engines, and was wondering if this was something us 1.8T owners should be concerned with.

This issue does exist and is serious.
Oil could travel through the cable harness into the engine control unit causing serious damage to the ECU.

There are "Oil stop cables" which prevent this.

In Germany every Mercedes dealership knows this issue and will install those cables upon request.

Does anyone happen to be familiar with the part number for the harness extension on M271 EVO engines? I see plenty of discussion for the supercharged M271 variants, but none for the turbocharged versions. The camshaft adjuster magnets have different part numbers between the M271 variants, which makes me believe that the wire harness extensions are not applicable to both part numbers.

M271 Kompressor camshaft adjuster magnet: 271-051-01-77
