What causes this part to heat up

The front black smooth rectangular area of the valve cover is getting extremely hot to the touch after few minutes of the engine running.
It seems like oil is burning inside. It did not get that hot before. The gaskets start to leak as well despite being replaced not long ago.
what causes pressure to build inside the engine if the temperature on the gauge is normal and assuming MBII is not working

Your engine is equipped with idle pcv and high load pcv systems. I don't know where they are located on your M271 unfortunately but would think a Search might give you that info..would think a hose from your PCV systems would enter into your air intake, intake manifold somewhere. Maybe this link may start a solution being found...gasket replacement (valve cover I presume) with incorrect reinstall ??
