OM651 dark coolant, is it oil?

I was just recently checking fluid levels and I noticed that the coolant in my C250 CDI OM651 is very dark, see the pictures attached. This is a 2013 model, I am the first owner and up until recently the dealership was servicing the car so I don't think its due to mixing of coolant 325.0 with 325.6.

If it is oil then I probably need to replace the oil cooler. Have any of you guys had similar looking coolant? I would have thought if it was oil it, wouldn't be so well mixed. This sample was taken after the car sat for about 24 hours.

Thanks!

Does it smell oily or does it feel oily on the fingers? Do you have chocolate milkshake under the oil fill cap or in the coolant reservoir? Are you losing oil or coolant?

Agree with your assessment...not oil/coolant admixture as I have seen it. Trans fluid would behave similarly. I would think aluminum oxide( black) corrosion products along with inner hose rubber wear debris. Mileage, hoses over 5-7 years ?
Probably a coolant flush/refill if unknown maintenance history. My catch basin for old drained coolant shows grit, black fine particles settling out.

Doesn't smell or feel oily, both the oil and coolant cap look fine and no loss of either.

Yeah I agree, I think a flush and refill is the most sensible thing to do now, I'll do the flush and report back on how it went after some time has passed.

Thanks Guys!

Maybe a quick test for combustion by-products since it doesn't have an oily feel?

The last post is interesting too. I've had head gasket failures that only involved leakage into the coolant channels...usually could see bubbles in coolant tank while running if leak large enough. On engine start up would get a puff of white tailpipe smoke with antifreeze smell as pressurized hot coolant would reverse flow fill into cylinder (s) as engine cooled. Don't they have test strips that test for exhaust hydrocarbons ?

Hi there! @zubin3333

Is there any new info about your car? I ask it because I've got the same problem.
My coolant fluid is dar as well as yours. I changed it. Fist it looked good. It was clearly green even when engine was running. But when I put the cap back onto the fluid tank and take it off about 1 minute later, the fluid was dark again.
I don't know what could cause it.

As I see there's no oil in the fluid. Does anyone have any idea about that? Thank You!

I would test for combustion by-products as the change happens so quickly.
