TIRE SIZE HELP

So I brought my car to my mechanic to get lowering springs installed and an alignment done, and while I was there my mechanic noticed that I was running 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 on the rear and said that I need to get 255/30/19 for the rear since it says that in the owner manual and that mine are too big.

I have a 13 c350 coupe 4matic and before I got this setup I did research and found that this setup is common which is why I got it. My mechanic said that if I don’t switch from 265 to 255, it will ruin my transmission and 4matic system. Does anyone know if this is true because like I said it’s a common setup on these cars.

I just want others opinions before I drop another $1000 on 2 tires

I have no idea if not going with the manufacturer spec'd tire will ruin anything. But when you look at the diameter of each tire:

235/35R19 647mm 25.5" Front

265/30R19 643mm 25.3"

255/30R19 637mm 25.1"

Unless my research is wrong in the numbers, the 265/30R19 is closer in diameter to the front tire size. But like I said I have no idea if changing things will screw something up, are things set up specifically for that sized tire?

that’s why it wasn’t making sense to me why 265 was such a big deal. I think I’ll probably keep them for now cuz I’m not trying to buy new tires again when these ones are already basically new

Easy. What did the car come with? Check the VIN on www.lastvin.com and look to see if you have staggered wheel sizes.

Generally, AWD cars will have the same size front and rear for the reason he gave, but see what Mercedes says by looking at the car’s configuration.

Look for a description that includes “with mixed tires”. If it doesn’t, then he’s right.

I have found that Mercedes dealers (or at least mine) have very competitive pricing on tires and may further discount things like an alignment if done when you buy the tires.
