Im under the car right now repalcing a broken exhaust clamp. It was very easy to remove the old clamp and put the new clamp on. Unfortunately it looks like a piece of the pipe is actually cracked off. Everything feels solid, no movement or separating, probably been broken along time. Plus the other pipe right next to it looks great so prevents it from moving around, im guessing. Just going to install the new clamp in the meantime and figure out what i want to do, probably look for a used exhaust pipe. Anyone happen to know the torque spec for the clamps bolt? I keep coming up with 40ft lbs for band clamps but nothing specific for these mercedes clamps.

Pipe looks cracked along the edge. sealing ring looks ok, not going to touch that just yet and probably make things worse.
I dont want to keep tightening the bolt fearing cracking the pipe even more. Got the new clamp on. Old clamp was loose and pulled right off.

I usually crank down on those types of clamps pretty tight. I save the torque wrench to stuff that matters -- lug bolts, spark plugs, stretch bolts, etc.
I ended up noticing the other clamps are tightened all the way down so the ends meet. Makes sense so its a full seal all around. I was afraid of the pipe breaking more so I didnt tighten down all the way, ill go back under and recheck and tighten more if it settles in.
