I came across this on accident and couldn't pass it up. I'm hearing these are pretty rare with a manual trans and the Black on Black is almost unheard of? 2009 with only 85k miles and its very clean. I've drove this car about 100 miles now and this little thing handles great! A little honesty here... I bought this for my 17 year old. I really want him learning early on a Manual trans. Problem is, this is so clean, mechanically sound from what I can tell so far and pretty rare from what I've researched. So giving it to a 17 year old that has never drove a manual is real tough . I'm pretty sure I got this cheap because its a manual trans and the older gentleman that sold it to me said his wife wanted it out of the garage since it just sits. He had it for sale for over 2 months and not one person came to look at it. Just wanted to post here and see what you all know about these and what i should be checking for. Thanks
All I need now is the 18" AMG Wheels that were an option this year. Trying to keep it as close to original as possible. If anyone has a set, please let me know. Thanks in advance

These cars will go >200k with proper maintenance. The 6 speed manual is a big +.
If you’re not familiar with Mercedes Benz you can get detailed information on the options and standard equipment on your car by entering the VIN into lastvin.com.
You can also check the NHTSA data base with the VIN to see if any recalls are outstanding — think airbags.
Looks pretty clean. The map/magazine net on the passenger side isn’t even frayed. Do you have an owner’s manual? If not, try to get one because mbusa.com only has online manuals back to 2012.
Did the previous owner have maintenance records? I suggest doing a complete B Service if regular MB maintenance hasn’t been followed. If you DIY and don’t have manuals, your local dealer will usually give you a maintenance schedule if you buy oil and filters from them this time. If you don’t DIY, an independent Mercedes or German car specialist shop is less expensive than a dealer.
Don’t know where you live, and the car doesn’t have many miles, but the rear sub frame should be checked for rust-through. It’s covered by an extended warranty in the US if there’s a problem.
One last thing: call Mercedes Benz Customer Support at 1-800-367-6372 and get yourself listed as the registered owner.

Get under the back axel of the car and check for rust on the subframe, and be extremely particular when looking as it rusts from the inside out.
It's a massive fault across many models of mercedes, and will be an instant fail on an MOT and cost several k to repair - depending where you live it may or may not be covered by warranty, but even so they still take months to fix it.
I registered my car with Mercedes online. If you sign up for the Mercedes Me with your vin you can download the Operators Manual and the Maintenance Manual, as well as check to see if free recall work was performed. Mines a 2010 and it has it.

Definitely DO NOT give it to your 17-year-old! Get an older VW Golf, Audi A4 or even a Honda as a first car. (Personally, the VW or Audi may not be as reliable, but certainly safer than an old Civic.) Wait until they get experience driving before adding the distraction of a manual transmission. An old Volvo station wagon (the ones that look like someone forgot to take them out of the box from the factory) would be great, too. Then, if you can bring yourself to letting go of the Mercedes, you can give it to your 29-year-old after they move out of the house.
I agree in principle. You obviously don’t need lectures on how to raise your children. But from my experience with mine and my grandchildren, it’s not how careful they are but that they are inexperienced.
Something is going to happen that a 20 year driver could have avoided. And the problem with older MBs is that the cost of fixing even moderate damage is going to cause the insurance company to total out the vehicle. You can take the settlement less salvage value, but then you’re on the hook for anything more.
I love the idea of learning to drive on a manual, 1st car I ever drove my friends moms VW manual and would let us drive around before we had our permits. I had 2 accidents my entire life and both times they totaled the cars, an Ultima and grand cherokee. They werent worth much to begin with, insurance adjuster asked me both times if i wanted it fixed or totaled, i said give me a check please. I went out and bought comparable vehicles that week.

One of the benefits of having children is that they give you a reason to get the next car you wanted. My kids would get my hand-me-downs. But, as Piggy said, the more experienced driver will stand a better chance of avoiding the accident. I told my kids when they were learning to drive to drive for the other person on the road, meaning to anticipate what they are about to do.
