2008 C300 Sport Headlights are dim!

Is there a way to upgrade my lights? It's nearly impossible to see at night!

When I first got my C300 I thought the headlights were horrible, seemed dim and hardly threw light down the road. I have the regular H7 bulbs in projector lens. I installed a plug n play HID kit and it made a huge difference. Ive had them in 2 or 3 years now with no issue.

I went with the Innovited Can-bus kit because it had good reviews and was priced fairly. It came with bulbs but there was an issue with them. The way they fit the filiment part was casting a big dark shadow down the road. After some research I figured out i needed HID bulbs that were mounted 180 degrees from the base so the filiment was on the opposite side. I bought a pair of Morimoto H7B bulbs and fixed the shadow issue.

The only thing i had to do is put a notch in the plastic cover for the headlight in order for the wires to pass through. Without the round cover on the lens would fog up with condensation.

Ill also add because i didnt want to just waste the first set of HID bulbs I went ahead and modified them. I used a small hand file and filed notches on the opposite side on the base. So at least i can use them as a backup set.

I went with 4500K bulbs since they seem to put out the most light. I like the light output down the road. The headlights originally came with Silverstar ZXE bulbs so I moved those to the fog lights. Driving with the halogen bulbs was dangerous.

Limited space to fit everything in that kit. I usually like nice clean installs but I just wedged everything in and zip tied it down where I could. Just made sure the ballasts weren't banging around. If I remember correctly the bulbs came with a round rubber plug with the wires running through, I guess they wanted you to cut out a round hole in the covers for the plugs to fit. I carefully cut them off and instead cut away some material of the plastic covers for the wires. You can always seal them up with some sealant or foam sticky tape but i haven't had any issues with the lenses fogging.

I also read Morimoto HID kits are some of the top of the line kits, I just didn't want to spend that much money on something I wasn't sure would even work properly. If something ever happened with this Innovited kit I would probably buy another one as a replacement. I used to have Xentec HIDs in my previous Grand Cherokee with reflector lenses, lows and fogs which worked great. I think the low beams required relays to the battery to work properly. I used the slim ballasts, which I remember having to replace once or twice. I think water got in them and they stopped working. That's why i didn't go with them this time.

Zip tied the drivers side up out of the way.

Passenger side ballast zip tied down to the frame. Looks like waters getting on it from the front grill probably.

Notch in passenger side low beam cover for the wires.

I'm trying to remember what I put in my 2004 SL500 for the high beams. They were H7 LED bulbs and worked without any errors. They also were amazing for the high beams. The low beams were factory HIDs.

I had gotten them on Amazon, but they are no longer available. The color was 6000K. There are other LED offerings on Amazon.

I looked into getting LED bulbs for the low beams but the ones I was coming across seemed to have huge bases and I did not think they would fit, be able to put the round cover back on. And they were fairly expensive and I was not sure they would line up in the housing properly. before getting the HID kit i looked aroud online for the brightest halogen H7 replacement bulb to try in the low beam. I ended up coming across the Osram Night Breaker Unlimited for a very low price on Ebay. I went to install them and that's when I noticed the Silverstar bulbs already in there so i figured halogen bulbs would not give me the light output I was looking for. So i went back on the Bulbfacts website i was using for information and ended up trying the Innovited kit. I was looking at the Hylux ballasts at first but came across the other kit half the price.

My experience with Silverstar bulbs is they don't last very long so i moved them to the fogs to use until they burn out then ill install the Night breakers. Most of the time I don't put the fog lights on anyways.
