b0096-12 The crash sensor right front door has a malfunction

Hi,

I have Mercedes C200 2008 and few months ago, the air bag warning sign came up from no where. The dashboard says "Restraint System malfunction consult workshop" and Seat symbol with ball in the middle kind of symbol in RED appeared in the dash-board and stays constant.

I sent it to mechanic and he mentioned the diagnostic code is "B0096-12 The Crash sensor "Right Front Door" Has a Malfunction. There is a short circuit to positive - Current , Pending , Stored.

The mechanic was unable to reset this code and told me to take it to Mercedes workshop.

Any idea what could be wrong before I will need to ask Mercedes and this could mean lots of pocket money expense

The car drives fine and no other issues.

Double-check the DTC code. I don't find B90096-12 for Mercedes (or any car).

Sorry my bad, it's B0096-12. I should correct that in the description.

Pretty sure the code is B0096.

Do you have your own Mercedes scanner? If not, get one. You will need it now or later as your car ages. I recommend the LAUNCH Creader Elite 2.0 BENZ, about $160 on Amazon. It will save you money in the short term.

Here are the diagnostic procedures from XENTRY. They are somewhat involved and you need to exercise care when working with the airbag system. If you don't know what to do, you need to have a professional fix it.

Interesting. I wonder what the fix is. I would probably try replacing the sensor. Wonder if the code has to be cleared or it clears on its own. I read that messing with certain connections can cause more error lights, I wonder if disconnecting the battery prior to working on it will prevent it.

Is the circled part in the photo below the sensor? Its the left side door in the photo, I'm guessing the right door is similar.
