c class estate choice help

hi all , new to mercedes and know nothing about them -Im looking for a reasonable and reliable c class estate. To be honest was originally looking at the 2016-18 w205's but have read the engines are a real issue and as Im buying a used one , likely 60-80000 miles could do without the risk.
Local mechanic suggested older models better - w204's so any advice welcome. Ideally want reasonable power so c200 and up for petrol and Ive never tried a diesel - are these more reliable? c220cdi minimum but c250d up better.
Any advice on these cars and engines / reliability appreciated.
Are there any w205s worth a look at.
I like the idea of a 6 cylinder over a 4 cylinder as well as I currently drive an old bmw straight 6
thanks

Please list where you are from in your profile so we can better answer your question.

Not sure the Estate (Station Wagon) in the 204 model was offered in the US.

All I can say is that the M276 engine is pretty rock solid. However, run the VIN of any prospective car through www.lastvin.com and make sure the engine serial number falls outside affected engines in the attached document.

At the mileage you are looking at, make sure the maintenance is up-to-date, especially the transmission service which should occur at 60,000 miles or 6 years. Hopefully the oil has been changed more often than specified in the Operator's Manual, ideally every 5000 miles. Lastly, brake fluid should have been changed every two years.
