p0219 code - car does not start

Hi all, i have a w204 C220 with OM651 engine. Today i went to work and got back home and when i tried to start the car again to go pick up the kid from garden the car didnt want to start despite it driving only 5 mins ago with no issue whatsoever. It cranks 2-3 times, but wont start. Got it scanned and it shows p0219 - engine overspeed condition. Also the RPM meter goes all the way to the end and after that hovers around 1000 rmp before going to 0 when the key is at ignition position and the fan on the radiator runs all the time. Is it possible that there is some electric error? Where is the engine speed sensor and can i change it at home if i order the part ?
Thanks a bunch!

That is the only code showing? The car should still drive with that code showing, at least from i can find.

Wonder why it wont start. Is the battery fully charged? Try pressing the accelerator pedal to the floor when cranking the engine over?

I have no idea about that engine. Maybe you can find the sensor in the engine parts diagrams, maybe in 15 Electrical: https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/e...asis=20420261S

Yeah, it's strange that it shows the code at full stop. I think the ECU gets a false reading off the engine speed sensor for RPM over the limit and prevents the car to start. Anyways, will take it to a workshop and find out.

If it was me I would test the solenoid power wire at the starter motor, connect in to the wire supplying the starter and it should have 0 volts then battery voltage supplied when your assistance winds it to start position then you should see starter solenoid supplied.

My 2008 C200K starter had voltage supplied and no starter cranking and needed a new starter motor at 125,000km.

Update: Mechanic said it was the engine ECU gone bad - pin soldering cracked from the years of vibration. Replaced the whole computer with junkyard one, 350EU with labor and data transfer from the original ECU. Driven 300+ km since then - no hickups, all good.
