I didn't want to hijack the thread on the transmission vibration issue, but JettaRed mentioned headlight restoration. I recently had this performed on the 24-year-old Boxster headlights. I removed the headlights and took them to a local shop. They sanded them and then sprayed them with a clear coat. The results are stunning and permanent.
Looks great. I absolutely cannot stand hazy-yellowish-scratched old headlights it just ruins the car. That and filthy wheels that look like they have never been cleaned.
When I bought my W204 the guy told me the headlights were recently replaced due to being in bad condition.
Odd thing, I had one of the glass fog light lenses cracked and moisture was collecting inside so I replaced it with an inexpensive no name eBay fog light and now its yellowing a little. The other original fog light still looks clear except for all the pits in it.

They did a beautiful job. There is some lens treatment that will keep them that way. I need to apply it to my Mercedes cars before they do become oxidized. I'll dig up the kit I used on the TT. At the time, I figured what the heck, they couldn't look worse. Shoulda done a before and after.
The Boxster's headlights weren't quite as severe as the TT's. The clear coat the shop sprayed is the same as the final paint coat on vehicles, so the headlights can be waxed as part of the long-term protection. Very convenient.
If only the wiring looked as good as the lenses. The wiring design is from the late 90s when German automobile manufacturers used biodegradable wire insulation. Now, if you look at them the wrong way, the insulation crumbles off. The only remedy is the disassembly of the headlight and the replacement of all the wires. A task for a cold winter weekend. Not fun.
