LEFT DIPPED BEAM

Hi, apologies if this has been answered before many times but i've searched but can't find the answer... i've got 2008 C320cdi and out of nowhere got a LEFT DIPPED BEAM error on the dash. i did have a bit of knock (to the back of a van) on the left side about a month ago but it's been working fine ever since. i've checked the bulb on the good side and that works fine, checked fuses, all fine. full beam works, fog lights work so do the sidelights. i have no idea what's going on. please help.
thanks

dash error

Did you try swapping the bulbs, put the right side bulb in the left?

Either scan the car with a Mercedes specific obd reader, or get out the multimeter and start tracing the wires back. How much voltage is the light bulb connector getting with the lights on? Is there an open ground?

Could be something simple like a frayed wire, or something more serious like ecu.

the multimeter is my next port of call mate and we'll go from there. didn't know if it was a common issue with an easy fix or not...

I’ve dealt with this exact fault on a W204 before, and it drove me mad at first. Everything checked out, bulb looked fine, fuses were good, full beam and fogs worked, yet the dash kept showing LEFT DIPPED BEAM. In my case, and in many others I’ve seen, it wasn’t the bulb at all. On cars with Xenon headlights, the dipped beam is controlled by a ballast (control unit). When that starts to fail, the light won’t fire even though the bulb itself is still okay. What made it click for me was a previous knock on the same side. Just like yours, the light worked for weeks afterwards, then suddenly failed. Turned out the impact had weakened the ballast, and vibration finished it off later. This is the exact type of ballast that fixed it for me: https://xenons4u.co.uk/130732915602-...trol-unit.html. Before buying one, I swapped the left and right ballasts and the fault moved to the other side, problem confirmed.
