2011 c300 trunk lid sticking out on one side

Any recent rear end accidents, even very minor ones? My wife backed my ‘13 into a parking barrier and the right side trunk lid was out of alignment. A friend at a body shop fixed it for free. The process was brutal — he put spacers under parts of the lid 5 or 6 times and pushed until it groaned. Then he closed the lid, checked the release, and it was perfect again. It took about 30 minutes. Said it was about a $300 fix if I had to pay for it.

looks like previous owner had something stuck in the lid when closing
i dont think its from any accidents
is there an adjustment anywhere for the trunk lid arm?

My friend (right? or wrong?) said that for minor adjustments just bend things a bit. His opinion was that for small things, loosening the mounting points will make alignment much harder to do.
If the lid was sprung by closing it on something, then that was about what he did to fix mine. Maybe that somehow needs to be reversed on yours. There are probably some mounting bolts on the lid arms up under the rear shelf. The full WIS (which I don’t have) covers hood, door, and trunk lid in detail in one of the groups.

Wonder if that is paint damage from something sticking out of the trunk when closed?
I searched around and even looked on my trunk and do not think it is a simple adjustment like turning a screw or stopper. I think it may have to be forced back into alignment. Something may have been stressed where the hinge meets the lid and bent.
