Exclamation W204 Struggling to shift up & Braking Issues

Good day all

I have the following car:
2012 W204 C-Class C200 Diesel
165000 km on the clock
Automatic transmission

The yellow transmission light is on. The car is struggling to shift up while accelerating (it takes longer than usual). In other words the car shifts at higher revs than normal. Also when I approach a stop the car brakes very suddenly when I press the brake paddle.

Does anyone have experience with this problem?

My second problem is that I am 50km from the nearest mechanic with a diagnostic tool to diagnose the car. Would it be better to order the correct scanner and scan it myself and communicate the results to my nearest mechanic? My question is actually if the diagnostic tool is too complex for self-use?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I think a good Mercedes specific obd scanner is a great investment. It will pay for itself the first time you use it rather than paying a shop to do it.

For the transmission when was the last time it was serviced, new fluid and filter? is it leaking fluid anywhere underneath? A scanner would be helpful to check for any fault codes. Without knowing anything else i would probably go ahead and replace the fluid and filter, see if that solces any issues. A scanner is needed to fill the trans fluid, has to be checked at a certain temp which the scanner will be able to show. I just service my transmission and had my scanner hooked to the car.

Hi Tim

Thank you for the response. Correction on my side: The car went last for a service at 166000 km and its currently on 174000 km. Engine oil, air filter, oil filter and brake fluid replaced.

Managed to get to my mechanic and he did a full diagnostic. He also managed to clear the codes and I have driven 50km and so far the fault has not appeared again. There were four error codes:

P245414: Diff pressure sensor on Diesel particulate filter short to ground
P244A00: Diff pressure on DPF too low
P244A7A: Diff pressure on DPF too low. Leakage
P246306: Soot content in DPF is not OK.

Their recommendation was to either clean the DPF or replace it or replace the DPF dff sensor. This specific sensor has been replaced at 130000km so it seems like an reoccurring issue. Any advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Just change the differential sensor and adapt the values with a MB diag system, no need to clean or force regeneration. Only the hoses from sensor should be checked and the electrical connector to be replaced if is the old model.
