My M272 engine is throwing the dreaded P0016 & P0017 codes
Ive got a 2008 (post camshaft balancer issue) C280 with the M272 engine and its been giving me the P0016 & P0017 (1200&1208) codes. Ive already replaced the camshaft position sensors and the magnetic camshaft adjusters. All of the circles line up at the 305 degree mark on the crankshaft pulley. I'm just hoping that the last thing left that could possibly be causing the codes is the timing chain being stretched. I've been clearing codes each time i do something but the codes just come up again. My engine's serial number says that I shouldn't be effected by the camshaft balancer but it does have 270,000kms on the clock. Do you guys reckon the timing chain would be the last and only thing that could be causing my engine light? Please let me know if there's anything else that I haven't looked into yet. The marks from Bank 1 (left side of the engine I'm pretty sure) the marks on the other side also pretty much match up the same as well.
The timing chain should be OK if the marks are between tolerance.
More likely is about camshaft adjusters.
I would not invest in any labor or parts till a decent diagnosis can be used, the Pxxx fault code is generic.

I have the same issue with my 2008 E350 M272 engine that is post balance shaft sprocket issues. But the car will not start. Did you find out what was wrong and what fixed it?

Mine is throwing the 0016/17 code but all sensors and cam adjusters are new, and mechanical timing is correct at 305* and 40*.
