722.96 4matic Transfer Case Supply Line Restrictor/Filter Cartridge Replacement?
I was just browsing some information on the 722.96 transmission lines and noticed instructions to replace a restrictor and filter cartridge in the transfer case supply line. I looked thru some diagrams and can see a restrictor, but no mention of a cartridge filter. I looked up the restrictor and it is available, but no photos of what it looks like.
Is this really a filter, and should it be replaced? I'm thinking if it is some type of filter then it probably should be replaced as part of the transmission service.
Came across some interesting info. This is the first time I saw something in writing from MB saying the transfer case shares fluid with the transmission.

I always heard they shared fluid I just never saw how. This was the first time I saw documentation on it, other than people online just saying its so.
When I was researching on how to replace the transmission fluid I saw in the instructions to pre-fill the transfer case, to lower it and fill 700ml prior to filling the transmission pan. I always wondered if it was necessary. I didnt do it, and just filled the transmission pan. Now it makes sense why it would be done if over hauling the transmission or even the oil cooler was replaced.
Now I wonder if a clogged mesh filter could result in blown transfer case, bearings?
