Keeps blowing starter fuse (for my grandpa’s car)
So, my grandpa has a 2008 C350 with 2,800 miles on it. He only takes it out once or twice a year, just how he is. He has the battery plugged into a battery maintainer, and garage kept with a cover. However, the past 2-3 years, he runs into an issue where it blowes the starter fuse (#7). We replace the fuse.. It starts… then a month or 2 later, goes to start it and blows the fuse again.
He is in Seattle, I am in Ohio.. so nothing something I can really attend to constantly but I did have him change the oil at least and told him he should start it 4-6 times a year and let it run for 5-10 min just so things don’t become stagnant.
I did replace the relay as well with an OEM relay, but still continues to blow the fuse. Wanted to see if anyone else has had similar issues because I cannot imagine that it could be the SAM since it has such low mileage. I will be going to visit for 3-4 days at the end of the month and want to try and find something for him. I was thinking it could just be a dry/dead spot on the starter since it isn’t used much… or corrosion/oxidation of the cable… but any other ideas?? Much appreciated for responses.
TIA
