Trans service question

2012 C250 1.8T 7G+
Car has 170k miles and I’m not sure if the trans has ever been serviced as I can’t find any evidence of it being done in the Carfax service records. Called the various MB dealerships that the car has been serviced at and they are unable to confirm that either. Last time it was at a dealership was around 120k. One service rep I talked to told me that he doesn’t advise changing the fluid at this point. I’m not planning on getting rid of the car anytime soon. What should I do??

100% without a doubt replace the filter and drain and refill the fluid.

It is nonsense to not change the fluid. Its as crazy as saying dont replace the oil and oil filter.

Simply ddrain the fluid, drop the pan, replace the filter, clean the pan and magnets, reinstall the pan, then pump in new fluid. Set the fluid level by monitoring the fluid temp with your obd scanner. As far as draining the TC I would see what the fluid in the pan looks like, if its bad then sure drain the TC but my fluid looked good so didnt bother. When I serviced my transmission I had never done it before so was really taking my time and it was getting late so skipped it.

I concur with @TimC300 . Don’t flush it, but a drain and fill is in order.

Its not nonsense to consider not replacing the fluid if its been a really long time without a change. Take a look at some videos by care care nut (legit toyota tech).

Talking about Toyota, I told my niece last year to get the tranny service on her Camry with 150k miles and she listened to one shop who told her not to do the service. Anyway, she went to another shop later and the fluid did not even want to drain as it was so thick like jelly.
I know some advice against flushing the tranny with high mileage. Why drain and fill is a no no for some I'm not sure.
So, it all depends.
I'm not disagreeing with any professional shops or their advice but this is what I noticed in her car.
My C250 2013 at 148k right now and I have already done the service 3 times, first one was at 80k.

There is a difference between a drain-and-fill and a flush. Flushes are not recommended, but a drain-and-fill is.

In the MB Maintenance manual it listed "Automatic transmission- oil and filter change".

No mention of a "Flush" so why anyone would do it I dont know. There is a reason to perform a flush where MB mentions contaminated fluid.

We know transmission fluid breaks down and needs to be changed. We know filters lose filtering capability and need to be changed.

Do whatever you are comfortable with. Me, I would want to see the condition of the fluid and filter and replace them.

I think its a roll of the dice to change the fluid after an excessively long interval. Especially if you dont know the history.

I changed mine (C250, 7g+ blue fluid) at 65k miles, 9 years, including TC. (At the time I was planning for 70k interval regardless of years). I was getting some consistent flaring in the first few minutes of driving one time each trip at one specific part of the road on a specific gear shift - something like 3rd to 4th. (revs would rise but gear wouldnt catch). I feel like I waited too long (time wise) to change the fluid, should have done it around 7 years. The transmission felt normal after the fluid change.
