How common is the cam adjuster problem on the m276?

How common is the cam adjuster problem on the m276?
Planning on buying a 2013 c350, but the potential cam adjuster problem really bothers me. I can deal with the ESL, valve body solenoids, cam position sensors, rear subframe and whatever, but seeing these $6-10k quotes for cam adjusters from other owners really puts me off.
Some report this issue at barely 130k kms with perfect oil change history, some are still doing just fine at 250k. How common is it really?
If I catch the cold start rattle early and replace the tensioners and check valve, can i get away with it? Or is the adjuster itself just doomed to fail eventually regardless of what I do?
